Past head of Neurosurgery department Ege medical school – Izmir – Turkey

Dr.Mehmet Zileli is the Professor of Neurosurgery. He was the Chief of the Neurosurgery Department in Ege University, Izmir, Turkey but left the university in July 2011.

He has worked as a research fellow in Erlangen, Germany with Johannes Schramm (1987-1988).
He served as the first President of the Spine Section of Turkish Neurosurgical Society (1995-1999), President of the Turkish Neurosurgical Society (2006-2008), President of the World Spinal Column Society (2011-2014), President of the Middle East Spine Society (2011-present), .
President of the Asia Pacific Cervical Spine Society (2014-present).
He has organized many international meetings: World Spine IV Meeting (Istanbul, 2007, (Program chairman), 6th Black Sea Neurosurgical Congress (Istanbul, 2009, President), 1st Middle East Spine Congress (Istanbul, 2011, President), 2nd Middle East Spine Congress (Izmir, 2013, President), Asian Congress of Neurological Surgeons (Istanbul, 2012, President), Asia Pacific Cervical Spine Society meeting (Istanbul, 2014, President).

Dr.Mehmet Zileli has important contributions to education and training in spine surgery in Turkey, by organizing 14 courses on spine surgery since 1997, three cadaver courses (2003, 2005, 2010). He has also been the host of the “Travelling Fellowship of Spine Society of Europe” (2002, 2003, 2004).

He is the founder of the first spine fellowship program in Turkey that served many national (34) and international (32) fellows.

He is the member of 13 national and 17 international medical societies. He is the editorial board member and/or reviewer of 23 scientific medical journal, in one of them the chief editor.

He is the author or co-author of 63 international, 77 national scientific papers, editor of 5 books, author of 20 international and 79 national book chapters. He has presented 293 papers or conferences in international meetings and 302 in national meetings.
Other than native language of Turkish, he speaks English and German in fluent level.
